Bills sign O-tackle

Post by Jacksonville Jaguars jerseys
The Bills took a step towards addressing their offensive line issues by signing Oakland Raiders free agent tackle Cornell Green. How big a step this is remains to be seen.
Green is not an exciting signing, and at 33 (he'll turn 34 in August), who knows how much he has left. But the Bills had to do something. With Brad Butler's sudden retirement, the Bills were left with Demetrius Bell, Kirk Chambers, Jamon Meredith and Andre Ramsey at tackle. Green is certainly a step up from that. He immediately becomes the favorite to start at right tackle. The starter on the left side will likely come in the first round of the draft.
He has started 46 games for three teams over 12 years (he didn't play in his first two years with the New York Jets). Thirty-eight of those starts came in Oakland over the past three seasons.
The 6-foot-6, 315-pound Green has the size you want and he is a decent blocker in the run game. But he was part of a mediocre Raiders offensive line. His time in Oakland was marred by untimely mistakes. He committed 13 penalties in 12 games last season.
Undoubtedly, some Bills fans are reminded of the last time their team looked to Oakland for offensive line help. Langston Walker turned out to be one of the Bills' worst free agent blunders ever. He wasn't awful, but he wasn't very good either. Signed to start at right tackle, Walker was moved to the left side last offseason. By the end of training camp he was released as the team determined he wasn't suited for its ill-conceived no-huddle offense.
But by most accounts, Green plays with more of an edge than Walker, who played behind Green after returning to the Raiders last season. The Bills also didn't over pay Green (three-year contract worth $9 million) like they did with Walker (five years, $25 million
The Bills are hoping they get more bang for their buck this time around.
