Changes begin in earnest for Browns at quarterback

Post by Tampa Bay Buccaneers jerseys
The Browns didn’t begin to reshuffle their ranks at quarterback until after the first weekend of free agency had passed, but they then made three moves that clearly signaled a sea change for their offense. First, they traded a conditional 2011 draft pick on March 8 for Seahawks backup QB Seneca Wallace(notes), who played his first six seasons for then-head coach Mike Holmgren, now the Browns’ president and the catalyst for a revamping of the Cleveland offense this offseason. At the very least, Wallace will be the Browns’ top backup quarterback, and he could compete to start. The day after adding Wallace, the Browns released Derek Anderson(notes), who is not a good fit in a West Coast offense because of his lack of accuracy. Also, on March 11, they hosted ex-Panthers QB Jake Delhomme(notes), released by Carolina last week. These developments have called into question the future of fourth-year QB Brady Quinn(notes), who had an up-and-down ’09 campaign with Cleveland. With deep pockets, the absence of a salary cap and 11 selections in April’s draft, the Browns are afforded quite a few options if they decide to acquire another passer, whether it be adding a rookie or signing or trading for a veteran.
