Tomlinson signing not essential for Vikings

Post by Kansas City Chiefs jerseys
There is a certain school of thought that the potential signing of RB LaDainian Tomlinson(notes) would be a huge score for the Vikings, for several reasons. One, he would provide the perfect veteran pairing with Adrian Peterson, perhaps challenging him and helping him curb his ill-timed fumbling. Two, Tomlinson could handle some third-down and goal-line duties. And three, he just might be the icing on the cake for QB Brett Favre(notes) to decide to return. Although Tomlinson might have at least one of these desired effects, the Vikings are not acting with any urgency on this. They know that, as attractive a player as Tomlinson is, he clearly isn’t the runner he was three years ago, has diminished receiving skills and might not be as effective as Chester Taylor(notes) was. Also, Tomlinson doesn’t contribute on special teams, so the Vikings certainly would need their third back to help out significantly in that regard. Tomlinson left Minnesota without a contract after spending several hours at the Vikings facility Thursday, and he was reportedly en route to visit with the Jets.
