JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- The Jacksonville Jaguars have re-signed wide receiver Troy Williamson, the team announced Tuesday. The news was first reported by NFL Network's Jason La Canfora, who says the deal is for one year.
Williamson, a former first-round draft pick by Minnesota, would have become a restricted free agent Friday.
Traded to the Jaguars in February 2008, Williamson earned a starting role last year before sustaining a season-ending shoulder injury in Week 2. He has 87 receptions for 1,131 yards and four touchdowns in his five-year career.
Last month, the Jaguars released WR Torry Holt, who started all 12 games for the Jaguars in 2009. Holt's departure opens the door for Williamson to earn a starting spot opposite third-year receiver Mike Sims-Walker.
